In memory of

David Owen Collins

September 3, 1956 -  October 3, 2022

With deep sadness, we announce the passing of our dear brother David, on October 3, 2022.

David died at the Brampton Osler Civic Emergency department after a long 2-year battle with cancer. Fiercely independent, our brother chose to fight this on his own terms, living by himself. However, in the last two weeks of his life he admitted he needed help and moved in with his sister Lorraine, who took care of him until the end.

David was born on September 3, 1956 in India to parents Philemon and Marion Collins. He was the youngest of five siblings, brothers Daryl and Cornel and twin sisters Lorraine and Charmaine.

David came to Canada on July 1, 1967 and after finishing high school started work in the electrical industry in sales, mostly in commercial electrical supplies. He loved baseball and golf, and enjoyed his Sunday round of golf come rain or shine.

David in his young days was given the nickname 'Punky' by his brother-in-law Reg (Lorraine's husband, sadly deceased) because of his independent soul and free spirit. He was unpretentious, and loved the simple things in life. He had a wry sense of humor, and a mischievous smile that made you wonder what comes next. The guitar was his loved instrument; Blues and Rock were his music. He was an extremely talented guitarist. He played in bands and just loved jamming with his many friends in the music world he so very much enjoyed. His mentors and idols were Keith Richards (Rolling Stones) and Eric Clapton. As a good friend of his musical family said, he is probably up there right now, free of earthly constraints trying to track down to hear and watch Keith Richards.

David is survived by; his sister Lorraine and brothers Cornel (wife Myrna) and Daryl (wife Patsy) along with his nephews Sean, Jason and Neil. his nieces Claudine, Tricia, Heather and Lindsey. and their families.

Dave and I had a lot of great times together playing the bar scene across the GTA. He brought a lot of energy and soul to our music and always had an upbeat attitude.
