November 8, 1952 -
July 17, 2017
BISHOP, David – David Malcolm, 64, of Brampton, died suddenly and peacefully on Monday, July 17, 2017 at the Brampton Civic Hospital. He was born, November 8, 1952 in St Asaph, Wales, the son of Harry and Hilda Bishop. David joined the Royal British Navy on June 29, 1970 at HMS Raleigh in Cornwall, England. He transferred to Somerset, England in February 1977, later retiring from the Navy in May 1983 as a Petty Officer in the Aircraft Handler trade. In the Summer of 1979, David met Jane while she was on vacation in England. David’s unwavering pursuit eventually paid off when he immigrated to Canada and married the love of his life, Jane, on May 14, 1983. David later worked as a Financial Advisor for Prudential Financial, the London Life Insurance Company, and Quadrus Investment Services Limited for over 30 years before happily retiring in the Summer of 2016. He is predeceased by his loving wife Jane Bishop (2015); survived by his five children Amanda (Andrew) Johnson, Matthew (Cassandra), Gareth (Andrea), Patrick (Emma), and Emma; two grandchildren James and Jacob; his sisters Margaret (Ron), the late Pam (1993), Christine (Dave), Elaine (Barry), and Lesley and his brother Trevor (Jane); his mother-in-law Jean Wingrove; his brothers-in-law Robert (Marianne) and Michael (Carolyn) and his sister-in-law Alison McCulloch (Ron). David was a very special Uncle to many nieces and nephews and will be dearly missed by a very large extended family overseas. David was a caring husband, an encouraging father, an understanding brother, a supportive uncle, a kind-hearted friend, and a helpful colleague. His presence will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched. He enjoyed the challenge of a Sudoku puzzle, the peaceful ambiance of his back deck, and the laugh of a good joke. He was fortunate to avidly travel with his wife Jane and their children for many years throughout their lives. David was a very generous man - valuing the needs of others before his own and providing support, love, and comfort to those he loved. Thank you to the emergency services and the doctors and nurses at Brampton Civic for caring for David in his last days. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 20th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Meadowvale Visitation Centre, 7732 Mavis Road, Brampton, ON L6Y 5L5. A Celebration of Life Service officiated by Reverend Debbie Johnson will take place on Friday, July 21st at 10:00 a.m. at North Bramalea United Church, 363 Howden Boulevard, Brampton, ON L6S 4L6. The service will be followed by an Interment. Memorials may be made to the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, in lieu of flowers.
