David John Giles, 65, of Mississauga, Ontario passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2015.

He was born to the late Marjorie Bevan and Robert Fletcher, April 11, 1949, in Liverpool, England. David graduated from Applewood Heights Secondary School in Mississauga in 1966 and began work with the Toronto Police Service in June 1970. He married his wife Marion in August 1977, and they raised their sons, Ron and Adam, in Mississauga.

David worked as a police constable in Toronto for over 26 years, retiring in 1996. He dedicated his life to looking after others. Never one to sit idle, David soon took up a dispatch job in the Transit Enforcement unit of GO Transit. This quickly turned into a role as Special Constable. Later, David worked as a bus driver until he retired from GO Transit in 2014.

David was a loving and caring husband, brother, father, grandfather, and friend. He had a reputation for humour, kindness, and generosity. He would do anything for family and friends. His granddaughters were the light of his life—they knew just what to say to melt his heart and give him a good laugh.

David’s passion for gardening was obvious. His daily routine, in warmer months, was to sit on his patio with a cup of coffee and the paper. Compliments would stream in from neighbours and strangers about his perfect lawn and his flowers that burst with colour.

David is survived by his wife, Marion; his sons, Ron and Adam; his brother, Don; his sister, Sue; and his granddaughters, Arianna and Isabella.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made out to the Palliative Care department of Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga.
