In memory of

David Bruce Thompson

July 4, 1949 -  January 8, 2023

Father, Grandfather, Brother, Soul Mate, Dedicated Sponsor and Mentor, and one of Canada’s Preeminent Film Editors.

In December 2022, Dave finished editing a film which would be his last. He did what he did best – he took somebody else’s work and made it better. That principal extended through every aspect of his life. His work in The Program is legendary and there are literally hundreds of sponsees whose lives have been made better by Dave’s dedicated and compassionate
guidance.

Dave has several families, all of which benefited from his kindness, humour, and quiet love. His sister Dianne, brothers Don and Dale, his daughter Heather and son-in-law Terry, Heather’s mother Sharon, and his granddaughters Chloe and Hannah, to whom he was devoted; and Vanna with whom he shared the past 24 years of his life. He is deeply missed by Vanna’s parents Hollis and Eleanor, and siblings Donna, Annalisa, and Ryan, and their children.

And there is his film family, both in the United States and here in Canada. Dave’s resumé looks like the ‘who’s who’ of the film and television industry and includes an Emmy nomination for his work on the hugely successful series “24”. Despite his international success, Dave always carried a soft spot for two of his early-days Canadian successes: “Due South” and “The Littlest Hobo” where he fine-tuned his editing skills on 51 episodes.

Though a cancer survivor for many years, the disease returned in 2022, and took him from us on January 8th, 2023.

While Dave was editing his last film, he knew of his illness but was determined to finish the project with his usual style and grace – which he did.

He told friends, “I’ll never stop editing until my head hits the keyboard”.

Dave has requested that in lieu of flowers, friends make a donation to Renascent House or Covenant House in his name
