In memory of

Danuta Wasilewska

January 22, 1924 -  June 18, 2019

Danuta passed away peacefully on June 18th, 2019 at the age of 95. Reunited with her mother Aniela, father Ignacy and brother Zdzislaw. Beloved mother of Wieslawa (Wojtek) and Grazyna (William). Proud grandmother of Elizabeth (Joe), Joseph (Maria), Tomasz (Ela) and Monika (Pawel). Adored great grandmother of Isabella, Angelica, Mariella, Lauren, Mikolaj, Jagoda, and Mirko. Danuta will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends.

Her family paid this tribute to her, “Danuta exuded class, intelligence, determination and great passion. Her contemporaries viewed her as a truly modern woman and working professional in her home country of Poland. She was a principled individual who was outspoken in her convictions and always stayed true to herself. Danuta had many decorations bestowed on her by the Polish Armia Krajowa (Home Army). An exceptionally proud Canadian, she loved her life in Canada and truly felt like it was her home. In her spare time Danuta enjoyed reading, baking and could never resist a sweater set on sale from her favorite store, Hudson’s Bay. Every meal was special; the dining table set such that it would rival the poshest of restaurants. She was generous to everyone she met and had an innate ability to read people. Danuta was often a source of sage advice to those who asked, never imposing and thoughtfully given. She will be deeply missed, touching many lives in her amazing 95 years”.

Visitations will take place at The Simple Alternative, 1535 South Gateway Road, Mississauga on Friday, June 21st from 4 pm to 8 pm and Saturday, June 22nd beginning at 10 am with a Chapel Service at 11 am and Inurnment to follow at Assumption Catholic Cemetery, 6933 Tomken Rd, Mississauga at 12:30 pm.

She will be in my heart forever.
Her gentle, loving, intelligent ways were so akin to her brother Zdzislaw’s - my father.
A big presence in our family has departed.
Love and blessings to all.
Krysia

Babcia I am really going to miss you.

You were easily one of the most interesting and courageous people I have ever met in my life. You saw humanity's darkest moments during the war and embraced Canada as your new home in the years that followed. Despite being faced with challenges that most of us probably wouldn't even believe, you were always the steady hand that guided so many to safety and to hope.

When you arrived in Canada you embraced your new home and taught us to do the same.

In the early 1980s you gave me the beating of my life for ruining a new snow suit my mom bought me. In the 1990s you welcomed me into your apartment where the amazing, home cooked Polish food was exceeded only by the stories from your past and how relevant they were to modern life. In the 2000s you oversaw the evolution of your family. We got bigger and more complicated but that was fine by you: more adoring people to prudently steward.

You always had time for us. You always took an interest in us. And you were truly one of the people who put the GRAND into Grandmother.

Babcia I thank you for all of it and I am really going to miss you.
