In memory of
Courtney Jairam
August 30, 1934 -
January 27, 2022
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Courtney Clio Jairam on January 27, 2022, after a long stay in hospital. Courtney was born on August 30, 1934, to Edward and Joyce Jairam and grew up in Georgetown, Guyana where he worked hard as a police officer, a prison officer, a tailor, and even an insurance agent. The true joy of his life was his wife, Gloria Jairam, who passed away on November 25, 2010, whom he will now reunite with. Courtney left behind his three sons, Patrick (Melanie), Ken (Rita), and Rick (Reena), his grandchildren, Nicole, Andy (Aliah), Trevor, Alex, Rachel, and Sean, and his great-grandchildren, Reid, Mason, Angelica, Arianna, and Annalisa.
Above all things, Courtney loved to spend time with his family. He brought our family together through his love of food, inviting everybody over for dinner each Sunday. He will be remembered for his warm smile and laugh, his sense of humour, his kindness, and how much he cared for everyone around him. Even when he could not come out of his house to see everyone, he always made the effort to call all of us every single day. It was something we would all look forward to: his daily call asking us about our day, how we were doing, and telling us that he loved us.
In his free time, Courtney loved to watch game shows (especially Jeopardy), cricket, and baseball. He also found joy in telling stories about his younger days in Guyana and in making people laugh. He faced a lot of challenges in his life and faced them all with strong determination and attention to detail. When he got something in his mind, there was no changing it and you could be sure that he would get it done. He sacrificed countless hours to accomplish his goals and to provide for his family. He had a difficult life, and despite everything he was put through, he was kind. He will always be with us in our hearts, reminding us to care for one another and telling us to be kind.
