Even though he was my father’s cousin (Alston Allen), I always thought of him as Uncle Cole. Despite never meeting him until only a few years ago when I visited Canada, I had heard about him from my father and my Aunty Doreen all of my life.

Meeting him was a pure pleasure, and I raptly listened to his stories of his early years in Trinidad. It was tremendously funny trying to get him to spill on his true age, but we could never get him to say.

As we like to say in Trinidad, Uncle Cole bat a good innings, he lived a good, long life. Now he gets to rest, and God bless him, may he rest in peace.
