In memory of

Clara Nina Bartlett

June 30, 1912 -  July 20, 2017

It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, Clara Nina Bartlett, at her daughter’s home in Ajax, Ontario. Clara Nina was born in Rattling Brook, Newfoundland to Lydia and Joshia Bartlett. Generally known as “Mrs. Gabriel” by many in Corner Brook, NL, she was the beloved wife of the late Norman Gabriel. She spent most of her life raising her twelve children as well as helping anyone and everyone who came to her with problems. Our Mother was known for her generosity because she could never see anyone in need and not offer to help. She was a deeply caring, compassionate, strong person with a great sense of humor. Mom taught us all that regardless of where a person came from, what colour they are or whether you were rich or poor: All people deserve to be treated with kindness and dignity.

Our mother, Nina, was the loving mother of Agnita Ladd, (predeceased by) Margaret Norma Metcalf, Patricia Gabriel, Cyril Joshia Gabriel, Alice Lorraine Gabriel, Marilyn Jane Jones, Randolph Norman Gabriel, Sean Gerald Gabriel, Raymond Wayne Gabriel, Theodora Gabriel-Senior, Gerald Fredrick Gabriel and Robin Rubyann Gabriel. Our Mother was also cherished by her 28 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren as well as her numerous nieces and nephews. She was the dear sister of Margaret Bartlett of Bay Verte, NL; predeceased by her sisters Jane Gosse and Mabel Bartlett both from Florida as well as brothers Chess, George (Scott) and Cyril Bartlett from Corner Brook, NL.

The family would like to express our sincere thanks to the CCAC for all their assistance over the past four years. We would especially like to thank our first PSW Elaine, PSW Charmaine (Nichole) Fraser and VHA Palliative Care Unit; her nurse Corrin and PSW Venett, who took terrific care of our mother in the last couple of months of her life.

I loved my Mom very much and it saddens me that we are apart but it certainly don't sadden me to know that she isn't in pain and she's happy and free again. We've been together for so long it's like half of me is gone. We weren't just mother and daughter we were great, long time friends. We did everything together and we were always there for each other not matter how rough it got or how hard our journey was we traveled it together.

Mom fought the good fight for so long. It is with deep sadness that we say good bye. She worked so hard all her life for her children, it now time to rest knowing she did the best she could. We love you Mom.
