In memory of
Chiu Lam Chung Sim - 趙林仲嬋太夫人安息
February 6, 1926 -
November 30, 2023
Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Chiu Lam Chung Sim, passed away in her home on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at the age of 97. She was born on February 6, 1926 (December 24, 1925 in the Lunar Calendar) in the village of Gujingzhen in Xinhui, Guangdong, China. She was born as the second eldest of 11 children to a land-owning family in China until they lost their land and property during WWII.
On January 6, 1947, she immigrated to Hong Kong in search of a better life. On March 28th, 1948, Chiu Lam Chung Sim married Chiu King Kwan. It was in Hong Kong that she and her husband had their three children: Chiu Wai Chi, Chiu Pang Ning, and Chiu Suet Man. On April 21st, 1968, the Chiu family immigrated to Hamilton, Canada, but she returned to Hong Kong after her husband passed away in 1972. She returned to live in Toronto, Canada in 1983 with her children, where she lived out the rest of her long and happy life, surrounded by her cherished family and friends.
Chiu Lam Chung Sim lived a remarkable life because of her compassion and commitment to help others in times of need. She lived each day with joy and gratitude in her heart and lived her life to the fullest. She had great appreciation for the simplest things in life. She enjoyed long talks with her loved ones, dinners out with her family and friends, and all the news she could consume until the later years of her life. She was a talented seamstress and intuitive navigator, even without knowing how to drive!
Our mother and grandmother touched many lives and left an indelible mark on the many people who were blessed to know and love her. Without reservation or condition, she devoted her entire life to her children and her family and made friends wherever she went. We will always be inspired by her boundless generosity, kindness, and optimism. Our family is devastated by the loss but buoyed by the fact that she lives on through those who cherish and love her the most.
She is survived by her son, Erving Pang-Ning Chiu; her daughter, Karen Wai-Chi Tai, and her husband, Tim Tak-Yu Tai; her daughter, Kathy Suet-Man Tse, and her husband, Patrick Tse; her grandchildren, Carina Yerk-Yiu Tai, Megan Tse, and Kaitlyn Tse; her youngest sister, Lam Shuk Yee; her stepson, William King Pang-On Chew, and his wife, Sui Moy Chew; her step grandchildren, Phoebe, Pearl, Wilson, Piper, and Stella; many step great-grandchildren and step great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
