It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Michael Chatterpaul Jagdeo on January 21, 2025. Mike was born in Georgetown, Guyana and was the loving son of the late Cyril and Joyce Jagdeo, dear brother of Jas (Smallie), Kay (Boysie), Barbara(Hans), Margaret (Dennis), Dereck (Ranie), Chandra Ann (Edward), Rita (Ken), Dave (Stella), nephew of Sally (Eric), Indra (Teddy), Sattie, Mangal (Edwina), cousin of Babo (Indra), uncle of Ryan, Darren, Shane, Amanda, Colin, Trevor, Alex, Dayna, Reesha, Kieran, Allan, Dylan, and other nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.

Mike will be remembered for his passion for reading about everything and anything. He had a wealth of knowledge on history, geography, politics, religion and was a keen follower of science and technology especially space exploration and medical advances and loved to watch nature shows like National Geographic. His breadth of knowledge and ability to remember details on a wide variety of topics was amazing.

He assisted in running the family businesses, both in Guyana and Canada and worked in the plastics industry for many years where he developed a deep expertise in the injection molding process.

Mike loved to reminisce about his boyhood days growing up in Guyana: riding his bike around Georgetown; hanging out on the sea wall with our dogs; our many family picnics on the Soesdyke Highway doing bush cooks and swimming in the freshwater creeks. He could recount the names of almost everyone he encountered and had a knack for remembering colorful and sometimes very humorous details of the many interesting characters who passed through our lives as workers and customers of our parents’ businesses in Guyana and Canada.

Mike was also dedicated and committed to supporting Mom and Dad in their later years displaying great care and empathy as their health waned.

He dealt with challenging health issues throughout his life and was loved and cherished by all for the grace and dignity with which he faced them. Health practitioners were always impressed by his knowledge. Mike was a pioneer in the feasibility study on home dialysis in Canada. He would be visited by various professionals at home to demonstrate that a patient can do home dialysis and still lead a productive life.

Mike had many wonderful qualities combined with an endearing shyness, humility and sense of humor that made him a joy to be around. He will be sadly missed and forever cherished in our hearts.
