In memory of

Charlotte MacKenzie

May 10, 1924 -  March 7, 2021

Charlotte (nee Sinclair) passed away peacefully at Belmont House on Sunday, March 7th at the age of 96.

Charlotte was a devoted wife for over 50 years to her late husband, Duncan MacMillan MacKenzie (2005) and a cherished Mum to daughter, Lorraine and son-in-law Michael (Butler).

Charlotte was born in Glenmoriston in the Scottish Highlands and then immigrated to Canada with her husband, Duncan in 1954. Charlotte had a long and rewarding career in the Nursing Field in both the U.K and Canada. Charlotte was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend. Charlotte (Auntie Chatt) will be greatly missed by her many nieces and nephews in Scotland, Wales, England and South Africa as well as her friends and family in Canada.

Charlotte will be remembered for her extraordinary generosity, kindness and her wonderful sense of humour. Charlotte loved her mother-daughter trips to Italy and NYC. Charlotte adored Broadway Musicals, Country Music, Dancing, Dancing with the Stars and Le Select Bistro.

We would like to thank all the staff at Belmont House and Vermont Square for their compassion, kindness and care.

As per Charlotte’s request there will be no Funeral, a private family internment will take place. Once Covid-19 restrictions are lifted and celebratory luncheons can be held (as Charlotte loved a party) we will raise a glass to our beloved Charlotte.

The Highland Welcome
Robert Burns

When Death’s dark stream I ferry o’re,
A time that surely shall come,
In Heaven Itself I’ll ask no more,
Than just a Highland Welcome.

Auntie Chattie was a warm and loving lady. I so admired her zest for life. She may have been small in stature but she had a big heart 💖
The speed at which she moved always amazed me. Many times I had difficulty keeping up with her.
I will miss you Auntie Chattie - you were always one of my favourite people.
Lots of love Moira and Family

The sweetest lady has passed.
I have the fondest memories of Charlotte from when I was a little girl up until today.
She will be sorely missed by her loved ones.
Rest In Peace dear Charlotte,

Love,
Marylin 💕

Mrs. MacKenzie (although she insisted we call her Charlotte) was a charming lady who I remember from the high teas we went to with Lorraine, my mother, another friend and her mother. Our mothers seemed to get along like 'thieves'. Even near the end, she was always concerned about other's comfort and ease. A small but mighty lady.
I am sure she is receiving a rousing Highland welcome and dancing country dances now.
We hope lots of these memories will bring joy to Lorraine and Charlotte's extended family. We hope that we will soon be able to gather to share these 'healing memories' of fun episodes with Charlotte.
Love and hugs,
Barb and Paul

Dear Lorraine and Michael,
Sending love and sincere sympathy at this difficult time. Losing a beloved Mom is always a sad time. I know you both have been very devoted to your Mom and her care for a long time. Be at peace knowing you did your best for her.
I didn't know your Mom well. What did know is that she had a great sense of humour and was full of energy and interest in life. I know you will miss her.
Sending love and support to you both,
Kathryn Walker

Sylvia Borges (Family Friend)

I have known Lottie my whole life as my Mom and her have been friends since the early 1960s. They were such good friends I came to think of Lottie as my adopted Scottish Auntie.

I am very sorry to hear of Lottie’s passing, and I am sending my love and support to Lorraine and Michael via long-distance, as the city is still mostly shut down due to the pandemic.

I will remember all the great conversations I had with Lottie – and Duncan too – and I will miss her clever chat and twinkling blue eyes, which thankfully live on in Lorraine.

RIP Lottie. You will be missed.
