In memory of

Charles "Chuck" Hicks

June 23, 1930 -  May 27, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Charles “Chuck” Hicks in his 95th year.

Chuck is lovingly remembered by his 3 children, Holly (Anthony), Marilyn (Bernie), and Geoff (Kim); his 8 grandchildren Katrina (Adam), Cole, Chase (Melissa), Blake, Emily-Jane, Brooke, Jaime, Shannon (Grant) and his 3 great-granddaughters Kinsley, Isla and Mya. He is predeceased by his wife and true love, Irene.

Born in Montreal on June 23, 1930, Chuck inherited a love for music from his father and became a gifted trombonist. His musical talent led him to perform alongside iconic artists such as Frank Sinatra, Lena Horne, and Chubby Checker. Beyond music, Chuck was also a dedicated student, earning a Bachelor of Science from Concordia University in Montreal.

While still in university, Chuck began a long and successful career with Bell Canada, where he worked for over three decades. His career culminated in an international assignment in Saudi Arabia—a move that he and Irene embraced wholeheartedly, offering their children the enriching experience of visiting abroad and discovering different cultures.

Chuck met the love of his life, Irene, on a ski trip—a chance encounter that blossomed into a lifelong partnership. They began their family in Montreal, later moving to Ottawa, and eventually settling in Mississauga in 1973. Together, they built a rich life filled with family, travel, adventure and love.

Among their most cherished places was their cottage on Black Donald Lake, where the family spent many happy summers. With Holly and Anthony’s cottage next door, and his brother Doug and sister-in-law Cyndy on the other side, it was a special place filled with laughter, warmth, and lasting memories. Later in life, Chuck and Irene also made a home in Florida, enjoying warm winters by the ocean. Between the lake and the beach, they truly lived life to the fullest.

In his later years, Chuck’s unwavering devotion to Irene during her health challenges was a testament to the depth of his love and character. His gentle care and enduring commitment during her final years were a powerful example of what it means to be a true-life partner.

While we mourn his passing, we take comfort in knowing that Chuck has been reunited with Irene, his soulmate. His legacy lives on in the music he loved the family he cherished, and the values he lived by every day.

He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered. A remarkable man, talented, devoted, full of life, and blessed with a wonderful sense of humour. To know him was to love him, and everyone who met him felt his warmth and charm."

Family and friends are warmly invited to attend a Celebration of Life for Chuck at Trinity Anglican Church, 69 Queen Street South, Streetsville, Mississauga, on Monday, June 16, 2025. Guests are welcome to gather and mingle beginning at 10:00 a.m., followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. A light lunch will be served afterwards. All events will take place at the church.

Chuck,

You were always our warmest hello and the most difficult goodbye. From the very beginning, you made me feel like part of a truly beautiful family, and for that, I’ll always be grateful. The world feels dimmer without your light, but your presence will live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know you.

Getting to know you more closely over the past five years was such a gift, one that ended far too soon. Chase and I will hold your memory close, often reminiscing about the laughter, stories, and moments that made you so special.

Thank you for always showing up for Chase, for guiding him, protecting him, and teaching him what it means to lead with strength and love. The lessons you passed on are now part of him, and he’ll carry them forward through life with pride and gratitude.

We’ll continue to celebrate your lust for life and your remarkable spirit. Never forgotten and always in our hearts.

With love always,
Melissa
