Calvin Lorenza Smith, age 64 of Ajax, ON, passed away on October 1, 2024, from complications after a heart attack. Calvin was born on July 6, 1960, to parents Calvin Ezekiel Smith and Daphne May McHugh in Kingston, Jamaica.

Calvin immigrated to Canada in 1974 at the age of 14 and resided at Marlee & Eglington area, where his life-long friendships and love for basketball were forged. He attended and graduated from Sir. John A. Macdonald in 1980 and went on to study at Centennial College in Scarborough.

He began a career in Correctional Services in the early 90s as a Correctional Officer, kickstarting 30 years of service first at the Don Jail and subsequently completing his career at the Toronto South Detention Centre and retired in 2020.
After retirement, Calvin spent his time playing and coaching basketball while indulging in his favourite vice of hanging with friends and watching worldwide politics.

Between 1992 - 1995 Calvin welcomed three children, Matthew, Malcolm and Vanessa who are the absolute love of his life. He is predeceased by his father who passed away in 2012 and his stepfather who passed away in 2014. He is survived by his mother Daphne, children Matthew, Malcolm and Vanessa, Sisters Janet, Lavern, Deborah, Julie and Claude.
