In memory of

Brian John Francis Lea Bettens

March 13, 1939 -  July 13, 2022

With hearts broken so soon again, we announce the passing of Brian John Francis Lea Bettens at the age of 83, on July 13, 2022. Brian passed peacefully at home after a long and winding road with dementia among other health challenges. He has joined his beloved high school sweetheart and wife, Carolyn May (nee Woodruff) who passed just two months before him. Brian is deeply missed by his daughter, Beverley, and his grandchildren, Cameron Hunt (Tegan Ridge) and Bridget Hunt (Devin Smith). Brian was predeceased by his parents, John (Jack) and Edythe Bettens and his loving sisters, Shirley-Anne Jenkins (William) and Lynda-Lea Charters (Arlen). He will also be missed by his nieces, nephews, cousins, many friends, neighbours and former colleagues. His family wishes to thank the PSWs, Melanie Charles and staff from Qualicare for their care and assistance.
Brian was so proud of his 35-year career with the Scarborough Board of Education. After starting at the Board in the printing office, it was discovered that there was a need for a printing press teacher at Bendale Secondary School. He got the job where he flourished in his role of educator. He went on to be Technical Director and finished his career back at the Board office as a Co-op Education Placement Officer. Brian loved watching and playing sports, spending time with his friends, building things and helping anyone who asked. Summers at the cottage at Moose Lake, Haliburton, were the most cherished of times.
While flowers will be lovingly accepted, Brian would be honoured if you made a donation in his name to a charity that helps children, such as Kids Help Phone.
Please join his family as we celebrate his life on Friday, August 19, 2022.

As one of my best friends in High School, Brian was the most honest, reliable and trusting friend any man could ask for in life. He was always there for both of us when we needed any special help or with down-to-earth advice. Our children loved him like the Uncle he wanted to be know as and always showed his affection, back to them.We all felt most fortunate in knowing and sharing him with Carol and Beverley. Dear Brian you are and will be sorely missed.
