In memory of
Bessie Karakasis
November 20, 1933 -
April 26, 2017
After a lengthy illness, Bessie passed away peacefully at home on April 26, 2017. As a young woman, she left Greece to seek out new opportunities in Canada. She learned English and found employment in Toronto’s Fashion industry. Her talents as a seamstress were recognized and appreciated by designers like Stephan Caras, Highland Queen, and Jones New York. She was passionate about making sure her family was loved, taken care of, and of course, well dressed.
She is predeceased by her husband Bill (Vasilios) Karakasis, sister Evdoxia Christou, and brother Dimitris Nikolis. Bessie will be remembered by her daughters Katherine and Tami (Thomai) Karakasis, her sister Alexandra Fillios of Cincinnati, as well as Kalsang Lhamo whose generous spirit provided exceptional loving care throughout her illness. A special thank you to Dr. Sian Wong, Dr. Marika Varga, and the doctors at The Temmy Latner Palliative Care Center, Mount Sinai Hospital. Gratitude is also extended to the tremendous health care team that over the years supported Bessie and her family; the nurses of St. Elizabeth (Alex, Annemarie, Susan) and the Spectrum Health Care providers, Senait, Ramona, Skyler, and Barbara. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Parkinson Canada in memory of Bessie.
