In memory of

Beryl Wong

June 17, 1964 -  July 2, 2020

"MAY I BE FREE FROM INNER AND OUTER HARM. MAY I BE HAPPY AND PEACEFUL. MAY I BE HEALTHY AND STRONG. MAY I CARE FOR MYSELF JOYFULLY" - a Buddhist loving-kindness prayer.

The price we pay for loving someone is grief and as family and friends we are all paying a high price right now. Our big sister, close friend, aunty, niece and daughter has left us too early, and we are all in a state of shock and disbelief. Grief never ends, but it changes. It's a passage, not a place to stay. Grief is not a sign of weakness, nor a lack of faith. It is the price of love.

Beryl was ferocious in everything she did from running to biking, and especially to eating! She was a foodie! With this same tenacity she fought a courageous battle against cancer. Through it all she was a warrior—never backing down from a challenge. Even on the day she was admitted to hospital for what would be her last time, she biked there on her own refusing to give in, refusing to allow anything to control her free spirit.

Beryl was incredibly loving and protective of her family and friends. Even until her final moments she was texting and connecting with her loved ones who she cherished. Again, prime proof of her will and courage in the midst of what would turn out to be her final battle.

We can all take comfort now, as we know her spirit is free to run, bike, and travel. She accompanies us all no matter where we are with determination, and undefeatable outlook on life.

We were made better for knowing her and it's her will that we will make others better.

The Wong family would like to thank everyone who helped and supported her during her fight. From her close friends, to the incredible staff at the hospitals, we can never express our gratitude enough.

Perhaps the best way to say goodbye is with another Buddhist prayer—that encompasses all of our feelings right now.

"AND THROUGH THE TRIUMPH OF MY DEATH, MAY I BE ABLE TO BENEFIT ALL OTHER BEINGS, LIVING OR DEAD"

Beryl, you were a beautiful bright light who has left us way way too early. I'm beyond devastated and still in shock at learning you are no longer with us and we will no longer have the pleasure of hearing your laughter and jovial fun spirit. The world has another angel and may you rest in eternal peace my friend. With love 💖💖💖

I met Beryl because of this terrible disease & we bonded right away because she was so smart & sweet & friendly. We were very comfortable with each other, she was so easy to talk to. I’m so happy to have met her we knew each other a short time, I only wish I was able to have spent more time with her. I feel lucky to have met her. My deepest sympathies to her family & friends. She was a light in this world & beautiful both inside & out 🦋❤️🙏🏻
