In memory of

Basil George Tambakis

June 20, 2021

Basil George Tambakis
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Basil George Tambakis on Sunday, June 20, 2021. He was a man defined by his boundless love and devotion to his wonderful children Willow (Nicholas), George, Varia, and his honorary daughter, Mehrshid. Basil began and ended his last Father’s Day enveloped in and embraced by their deep love, gentle and indefatigable care, and remarkable support. They, along with all the dogs, were indispensable to his wellbeing, particularly during this last difficult part of his big life adventure. Predeceased by both his parents, Basil is survived and so deeply missed by his sister, Catherine (Einar), and brother, Chris (Rebecca), nieces Alexa and Sara, past partner Jennifer and his extended family and many friends.
Basil was a dreamer, a visionary, a collector of ideas, a philosopher, and a generous heart. From an early age, he was equally comfortable imagining and executing grand business ideas as hefting ridiculously heavy beams solo, and as proud of esoteric intellectual meanderings as of finding the practical solution. A charismatic presence, he had an endless array of interesting stories to share, and was always available to offer his perspective on whatever the matter at hand.
The family would like to thank Dr. Derek Tsang and the entire Care Team at Princess Margaret Hospital for their compassionate care and support.
A private family service is being held due to covid limitations. A celebration with friends and family will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations to Amics dels Animals d’Esporles (www.facebook.com/amicsanimalsesporles/), Canadian Cancer Society (www.cancer.ca) or your personal charity of choice are gratefully appreciated. Online condolences can be made at www.etouch.ca
Basil was a unique and vibrant man, a true force of nature. We will miss him deeply but are comforted in our belief that he is now on an extended sun-filled sailing trip on the bluest of waters.

He did renovations on a house I owned 20 years ago.
He was a kind soul, wonderful family man. He was charismatic .
So sorry for your loss.

Saddened to read the news in the Globe and Mail this morning. I have not connected with Basil in many years but I harkened back to our high school adventures and the fun and joy Basil brought to life. A big hearty smile and lots of laughs. Sleep warm my friend
