In memory of

Gloria I. Bartley

April 4, 1934 -  April 16, 2018

Gloria Isadora Bartley (Roberts), died peacefully on April 16, 2018. She is survived by her husband Ralph Bartley and her beloved son Alonzo.

She was born in Trinidad and Tobago on April 4, 1934, and served on the country’s police force before immigrating to Canada in the late 1950s.

Gloria joined Toronto Police Services in 1960, becoming the city’s first black female police officer, where she always displayed professionalism and grace, especially in her duties directing traffic at Toronto’s busiest intersection between the Simpson’s and
Eaton’s stores at Yonge and Queen.

After retiring from the police force in 1967 to raise a family, Gloria continued to show humility and grace. She volunteered her time and skills to several organizations including Harbourfront Centre and Parkinson Canada.

From the Bartley family in Trinidad, I would like to extend our condolences. I remember on the visits that we made to her home over the years, she extended her West Indian hospitality and made us feel very welcome.
May the angels welcome her into paradise and may she rest in peace.
Alonzo our thoughts and prayers are with you at this trying time.
Please give Uncle Ralph a kiss for me.
