In memory of

Barbara Nathan-Marcus

October 5, 1943 -  March 27, 2023

In Vaughan, Ontario after a brief illness, Barbara’s passing has taken a true force of nature from our world.
Barbara was an extraordinary woman, admired by many: an artist, progressive, wickedly funny, fiercely loving, resilient in the face of many illnesses and a great friend, sister, mother and grandmother.

Cherished daughter of the late Harry and Ann (Appleman) Nathan. Dear wife of the late Robert (Bobby) Marcus. Devoted mother of Jeffrey (Susan Nitkin) of Newton, Massachusetts and Steven (Sherna Marcus) of Thornhill, Ontario. “Fun” bubbe to Caleb (Erica Granor), Noah z’’l and Joanna, Lauren (Chris Nash) and Hannah Marcus. Loving sister to Natalie Voldar and Marlene Levine and sister-in-law to the late Jack Voldar, Sidney Levine, Nancy (Marcus) Danoff and Jack Danoff. Aunt and great-aunt to many.

The family would like to thank her caregivers Acel, Ayuni, Barley, Malou and especially Nerissa for all the comfort and support they provided.

Funeral will take place at Elgin Mills Funeral Centre, 1591 Elgin Mills Road East, Richmond Hill, ON L4S 1M9
Tel: 905-737-1720 at 2pm on Mon, April 3, 2023 (please arrive by 1:45pm). Funeral will also be live streamed starting at 1:45PM (link on the top of Elgin Mills' home page on day of service).

A shivah observance will take place at the home of Steven and Sherna from 7:30 to 9PM April 3. We will also close the week of shivah with a Shivah Minyan service on Zoom: https://www.dorsheitzedek.org/event/shivahminyan-barbaranathanmarcus

In the too short time that I knew Barbara, and even though it was only on-line, her presence was deeply felt at Oraynu's ARC (Anti Racism Committee). She inspired us to greater thinking and caring, and to action. Barbara made a difference.
