“To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die.”
Thomas Campbell, Scottish Poet (1777 – 1844)
Barbara died peacefully with her three children by her side.
Barbara was born in Toronto, Ontario in 1939, the only child of Jim and Sally Robb. She attended Eglinton Avenue Public School and Winston Churchill Collegiate Institute. In 1959, she married Walter George Shephard and lived in Peterborough for 10 years, during which they welcomed their three children. In 1969, she decided to return to Scarborough, Toronto with her children, working as an executive secretary for most of her career.
Barbara lived in Scarborough for most of her life, until moving in 2019 to Aurora’s Chartwell Hollandview Trail Retirement Home. Happy to leave the hustle and bustle of Toronto behind, Barbara looked forward to not having to cook, clean, or drive.
Barbara was very proud of her Scottish heritage as her mother was born in Old Cumnock, Ayrshire. Her father's parents both came from Scotland; Findochty and Newmill. Finally, she loved her chocolate! It was never too early in the day for a piece. Christmas advent calendars were often finished well before the 25th of December.
She leaves behind her three adoring children - David (Monica), Anne (Doug), and Susan (Rob), and four loving grandchildren – she was Nan to Catherine, Rosemarie, Jonathan, and Andrew. Barbara has requested a small private family funeral. She will be buried in Pine Hills Cemetery with her parents James Thain Robb (1910-1983) and Sarah Carter Robb (née Weir) (1912-2003). In lieu of flowers, Barbara asks that you make a donation to the Toronto Humane Society or the Salvation Army or to The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), instead of flowers.
