In memory of

Audrey Mabel Gillam

July 14, 1928 -  January 9, 2022

Audrey Gillam (Warren)
July 14, 1928 - January 9, 2022

Our dear, loving Audrey passed into the presence of her Lord Jesus on January 9, 2022. Devoted wife of the late Harvey Gillam. Much loved mother of Gaye (the late Michael), Mary (Brian), and Cori (Don). Cherished Granny of Ryan (Bethany), Lindsay (Mark), Tali (Jake), Erin (Chris), Jaye (Scott), Amy, and Great Granny to Anouk, Vienne, Noore, Caleb, Ethan, Audrey, Noah and Eli. Sister of Carol Balke (Billy) and the late Jim (Florrie), Bob (Ivy), and Joe (Jean) Warren.

Daughter of the late Harry and Mabel Warren, Audrey grew up in Clarkson and Port Credit. She taught her three daughters to be strong in their convictions, fair and generous to others, and to love and value family. “Mom, we hope we have done you proud.” A caring and dear friend, Audrey enjoyed planning lunch dates, organising bus trips and telephoning friends to let them know they were on her mind.

Audrey was bright and intelligent; she learned and taught Esperanto to children and adults to foster world peace and understanding. A gifted musician and singer, Audrey was a long-time chorister with the Mississauga Choral Society and Mississauga Festival Choir. She and Harvey loved bird watching, hiking, and the outdoors. Their favourite getaway was spending time at their cottage in Dorset, ON.

Selfless and warm are words that describe our Audrey, who lived out her faith in God by knitting scarves for residents of The Salvation Army Gateway Shelter and attending the Mississauga Christian Women’s Club.

Known as the ‘Coconut Cream Pie Lady’ at El Spero Restaurant, Audrey made sure to reserve her dessert upon entry; she balanced tireless service and love for others with a delight in life’s simple pleasures. Audrey’s kind and generous spirit will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her. A celebration of life will be planned for the spring.

The family would like to thank the dedicated medical staff at Trillium Hospital Mississauga. If desired, donations in Audrey’s memory may be made to The Salvation Army Gateway Shelter: https://thegateway.ca/donate

My deepest condolences to all the family in the going home of your beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and friend to many. Mr. and Mrs. Gillam were such a sweet and delightful couple that I was blessed to have spent time with. Audrey will be missed by many but we have the assurance that we will meet again and I look forward to hearing her in that heavenly choir. Hugs to everyone

Dear Audrey, It is very sad to know that I will never receive those warm calls you made just to check on me.

When I joined Mississauga Festival Choir in 2008 you very warmly welcomed me and made sure that I felt at home. Since then we became very good friend going for road trips, lunches and dinners. We had great times going to Meadowvale Theatre for shows which you had made arrangements for and made sure all of us had our yearly subscriptions well in advance and that dinners after the shows were booked. You would happily pick me from home to go for functions together instead of going in separate cars. Your energy and drive was out of this world. After every MFC concert at the Living Arts, you would go out for refreshment and I always wondered how you could be so energetic at 10pm and after 4 hours of singing.....but that was you.

Your love, kindness, generosity, care and concern for people was amazing. Thank you for sharing your wonderful life.I learned so much from you and I know I am a better person because of you. I will miss you.

Rest well my friend. Until we meet again.

Audrey was such a constant in the alto section of both Mississauga Choral Society and Festival Choir. Even when in a wheelchair she was always at our rehearsals and concerts singing with her strong alto voice. She was always cheerful and supportive. Blessings to you, Audrey.
