In memory of

Ashley Amy Lawrence

May 18, 1982 -  September 1, 2024

Beloved daughter of Judith Marilyn Ash and David John Lawrence passed away at her favourite place, “Pooh Corner”, her family cottage in Mulmur, ON, on September 1, 2024, shortly after midnight. She is predeceased by her father, David Lawrence, her half-brother Paul Lawrence, her half-sister Vicky Lawrence; uncle, Peter Ash; and aunts, Joan Henry and Gillian Ash. She is survived by her mother, Judith Ash, sister Courtney Lawrence and half-sisters Sarah Lawrence Rivett, Kerry Lawrence and Tracey Hill; uncle, Peter Lawrence; as well as cousins, Lynda, Lindsay, Caley, Galen, Taryn, Greg, Cynthia, Andrew, and Peter.

Ashley was known for her enthusiasm and love of life. She had a sparkle in her eye and a laugh that was infectious. Although Ashley dealt with disabilities throughout her life, she was curious and determined to achieve her dreams and live life to the fullest. While sometimes frustrated with her limitations, her smile and enthusiasm would instantly light up a room. She graduated from Kohai School and attended Seneca College and was involved in many community programs and creative activities such as sewing and drama classes. She also had a love of swimming, sitting in nature, collecting t-shirts and spending time with her pets, especially her guinea pig, Oreo Cookie. After two years of living with bile duct cancer, she wanted everyone to know she was a good daughter and good big sister. In her last year of life, she was hospitalized with serious issues several times, and each time she was determined to continue living and create new memories and experiences. She was brave despite her concern about her future and inspired others with her will to live.

The family would like to thank Montage Support Services for all their care and love, Princess Margaret Hospital for their concern and support, and the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care for their ongoing dedication to Ashley’s health and wellbeing.

In true Ashley fashion, she would want not just one but two services. On Friday, September 20th a service will be held at St. Matthias Anglican Church (45 Bellwoods Ave.) at 11 a.m., followed later in the day by a Celebration of Life at the Mt. Pleasant Funeral Centre (375 Mount Pleasant Rd.) at 3:30 p.m. A link to livestream the service will be available. All are welcome to attend both services, and at Ashley’s request are encouraged to wear their favourite t-shirt and jeans to honour her love for t-shirts. For further information about either service, please contact Mt. Pleasant Funeral Centre, 416-485-5572.

In lieu of flowers the family encourages donations to St. Matthias Anglican Church (https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/132071168RR0001-st-matthias-church/), Montage Support Services, The Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care or The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre (Gastrointestinal Clinic). Additionally, for those joining the Celebration of Life, there will be a carefully curated selection of Ashley's T-shirts for purchase and all donations will go to the above charities.

While you may not have had the good fortune of longevity of years you were blessed with a vast caring and supportive circle of family and friends. Now those are riches of the highest order. May heaven’s menu always feature shrimp and green rice.

I knew Ash when she was part of purple Carrots. I did lots of workshops with her. She always told us stories about her shirts and her hamster Oreo. Sometimes she participated in our workshops from the cottage. Ash was a good friend and a special part of our group. I will miss her.

Ashley was such a notable character in my life, she makes an appearance in my memoirs during a rather pithy conversation we shared in my barn where Judy came to ride for many years. That chat showed Ashley's awareness of society, her fine eye for and ear on human behaviour - plus a wry wit to go along with her observations. Her welcoming greetings always made me feel like a long lost friend, and then the volley of questions would come. Her family's adoration for her was so moving. It was a privilege to be allowed close, and a life lesson for me on familial love. Thank you Ashley.
I wish all the family a lifetime of fireside stories about a really special person. Sending you much love, Judy and Courtney,
Dorita
