He was the son of the late Philip and Katie Lachana, father of Anissa,Tata and Alia Lachana, Brother Arnold to Alim Khan, grandfather of Emilio Tata and father-in-law of Sergio Tata. After attending the JB Cropper Canadian Mission (Presbyterian) School and then the Corentyne High School (now the JC Chandisingh Secondary School) where he excelled, he served as primary school teacher and then taught at the Belvedere High School. At age 21, in 1966, he emigrated to Canada to attend Sir George Williams University (now Concordia University) in Montreal. Upon graduation, he moved to Toronto. Following in the footsteps of many family members, he decided to enter the teaching profession and subsequently served for many years as a teacher with the Toronto School Board. With a love and passion for teaching, after retirement he served in London, England; New York City, North Carolina, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; and until recently, in Guyana.
He adored his family and spent much of his vacation time with his grandson. Arnold will always be remembered as a religious minded individual, who displayed sacrificial love for his family and friends. He will be remembered for his hospitality, generosity and kind-heartedness. He was the live-wire at every family gathering. He holds a special place in the hearts of many friends and family.
He will surely be missed. Rest in peace dear Arn.
