After coming to Canada in 1970, Butch settled into life in Toronto as a Canadian, passing time playing hockey and hanging out around the City with friends. In the 80’s in Mississauga, Butch honed his musical skills playing his guitar in the basement with friends or rocking out to Jimi Hendrix by himself.

A hard worker in his adult years, on the weekends Butch would look forward to hanging out with his siblings, friends at the cottage, studio or in the basement of Perivale.

Butch was known as the care-giver of the family, helping his Mom and Dad with “Sunday cooks” since the 80s, all the way up until the past 10 years as he took the lead and cared for his aging parents. Whether it was curry goat and dhalpuri or roast beef and potatoes, Butch was his parent’s sous chef and the whole family benefitted from his culinary skills.

He cared deeply for his niece Ashley and great niece Ariayah, cooking and babysitting whenever Ash needed a little help, and Frankie enjoyed the company of the girls. We will forever remember Butch as our loving, long haired older cousin who would slip us $20.

The baby of the family, Ryan joined his siblings in Canada in 1973. He had a big heart and big smile, especially when he was watching Benny Hill, Eddie Murphy or Sanford and Son. If you sat with him long enough he would recite the words and laugh at himself and the punchlines.

His collection of sitcoms and movies ran deep, but his music collection and love of music was his prized possession. He would look forward to weekends with his siblings and studio sessions with his friends where he was the drummer. From Pearl Jam to Fleetwood Mac, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Pink Floyd, he had an appreciation for all musical genres and would hit every concert he could. He played a big role in fueling his young cousins’ love of music and favourites like Madonna and Nirvana, buying us collectors’ items from Queen St. on his lunch hours at Canada Life.

Ryan was generous with his little cousins and nieces. Whether it was taking us trick or treating (he was Bruce Lee, of course), babysitting or coming to their birthday parties or teaching them how to play sports.

Life was not always easy for the “Boys,” as their Aunts Elsie and Radha fondly refer to them no matter how old they got, but somehow family was always first. We can all take great comfort in knowing that they are where they should be. At peace and with family, enjoying a Sunday cook with their Mom, Dad and Ma.
