Tom and I are so sorry to learn of your mother's passing. We lived across from you on Corning Road for 20 years and I still remember the day your family moved in - all four of you boys came over for chicken noodle soup while your mom looked after the movers. We were so lucky to have such wonderful neighbours. We will pass the news on to Rob, Tim and Sue. Please accept our deepest condolences.

When our mother came over from China at the young age of 17, she quickly bonded with her father (our Ghong Ghong) whom she was just getting to know.

Ghong Ghong was way ahead of his time. He not only enrolled mother into public school but he also taught her how to drive! Our mother was one of the few girls of her generation that could drive.

The story goes that on their first date our father was picked up in Chinatown by our mother and Ghong Ghong was chaperoning!

Thanks for sending the pics to me, sure brings back a lot of good memories.
One of my first memories of your mother was when she was still with her parents and living above the laundry. Her bedroom was right next to her parent's room. I remember seeing her in her bedroom reading a book and when she saw me she invited me into her small bedroom and gave me a candy. She was always very kind to me and she invited me to all your early age birthday parties. There were a lot of Birthday parties with so many brothers, sisters and cousins. All the best to everyone, King

The Trunk
Young Sue Ying carried her life's belongings in the trunk that her father bought her for her journey from China to Canada.
It later served as her memento keeper and her safe for valuables.
It was so cool growing up when Ma would unlock and swing open the trunk the sound of the roller wheels on the hardwood made a wonderful squeaking rolling sound. We never got to see all the hidden treasures but the trunk itself was Ma's most prized possession.
