In memory of
Anna Ferris
November 16, 2024
Anna gave her final signature SIGH on Saturday, November 16 flying into the strong arms of her husband Joe.
Anna loved classic tunes, which she called ditties, especially Leonard Cohen and Frank Sinatra. Joe and Anna are now dancing to her favourite songs- Dance Me to the End of Love and Fly Me to the Moon. Anna was born in Windsor, Ontario. Her Ukrainian mother named her Anna. Pure and simple, no middle name needed. She was preceded in death by her mother Dorothy, stepfather Phillip, brother Mike, nephew Gordie, husband Joe, daughter Kathy, son Nick, and her cat Tequila “Tikki”. Survived by daughter Sarah, son John, granddaughters donechku Rivers, Ferris, and Lauren, greatgrandchildren Djuna Blue and Cassidy Q, tovarish Alfredo, Drew,Scottboy, and her grand dog Hayden. Her mother Dorothy and brother Mike came to Canada on “the boat” before she was born. Mike, being older, was busy with school and then training for WWII. Anna’s mother and stepfather worked hard at the foundry.
She was home alone often with friends taking care of her, so she had her mother enroll in school a year early when she was four, they lied about her age. Then a few years later the school accelerated her up a grade. Once in high school, she was probably the most adorable young student trying to fit into the Secretarial Studies program. She went straight to work and her secretarial skills were like no other. She was the office favourite at the Lipton Tea Company where she’d push the tea cart around to serve refreshments. She worked for many companies in beautiful buildings around Detroit before she married and had children. Even at the family home, her fingers were busy on the keyboard typing legal documents for Joe. When her children were grown, she landed a signature position at Cawthra Park Secondary School. She managed the Student Desk where she kept attendance, made the daily announcements, avoided handing out detentions, and sprinkled her love on each teacher and student. She was so popular that on Valentine’s Day, her desk was piled high with cards and flowers.
Anna & Joe were die-hard baseball fans. While living in Windsor the Detroit Tigers were their team. They moved to Toronto with the family and the Toronto Blue Jays came onto the MLB scene. They went to the very first Jays game at Exhibition Stadium in a snowstorm, and the very first game at the SkyDome. Anna never stopped cheering on the Jays and she never went “out and about
“without her Blue Jay crossbody bag. It worked for ALL occasions. If a game was on, chances are a family member would get a phone call when a home run was hit. “Did you see that?!” When she was at a game, she loved a cold beer and, of course, peanuts.
She held onto that beer for all 9 innings, slowly sipping it even when it became warm. So, the next time you are at a Jays game grab a beer and make a toast to The Baba!
Anna was like her mother; the door was always open and there was always yummy food on the table. She had so many loyal friends and her children and her grandchildren’s friends were her friends. She cherished all her relationships and filled the lives of those all around her with acceptance and pure love.
