It is with love and regret that we announce the peaceful passing of Ann M. Doherty on May 23, 2026 in Burlington, Ontario. Ann was the beloved wife of the late Douglas C. Doherty (2020) for 65 years, mother to Deborah (Luis) and Drew (Alison) and very proud grandmother to Jennifer, Vanessa, Alexandra and Cameron. Ann was the older sister of four siblings, predeceased by her sisters Roberta [Bobby] (1955) and Carole (2020) and lovingly remembered by her sister Dorothy (Alex), her brother David, and many nieces and nephews.
Ann was born and raised in Toronto, attending high school at Western Tech & Commerce. This was followed by an employment career in various roles at Crown Life Insurance, Imperial Oil Ltd., the Halifax Insurance Co., North York Board of Education and the York Downs Golf & Country Club.
Inseparable in retirement, Ann and Doug enjoyed living for twenty years in the Green Briar community in Alliston, Ontario. They often reminisced about their time in Green Briar - canasta, bridge, golf, PROBUS Club, various celebrations with friends and the wonderful sense of community they experienced. In retirement, they were also very fortunate to spend time traveling to many parts of the world together with friends or family.
Ann will be fondly remembered for her love of family, her wisdom and kindness, a terrific sense of humour, her lifelong love of music (opera) and her beautiful soprano singing voice. Ann’s love of music played a powerful role throughout her life, and became one of the many gifts her children benefitted from throughout their own lives. Ann was also an avid reader and an accomplished seamstress, the latter borne out of necessity yet also as a means to define her own sense of style.
She was a remarkable mother and grandmother who created a safe, loving and supportive home environment for her family. Her unwavering support for her siblings was also prominent from a very early age until more recent times.
The Doherty family would like to thank the staff on the Lakeshore Unit at Creek Way Village in Burlington, Ontario, who provided kind, compassionate and people-centred care for Ann and her family at the end of her life.
A celebration of both Ann and Douglas' lives will be planned for the Fall of 2026. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made in Ann’s memory to the Willow Foundation or the Kerr Street Mission in Halton region.
