Andrew Papadopoulos, our father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle passed in his sleep at North York General Hospital. He was six days short of his 94th birthday. Andrew is survived by his sons Themistocles Sam and Peter, his grandchildren Nicole (Dhy), Phylea, and Andrew (Kassi) and his great-grandchildren Tristan, Evee, Elisia, Kalissa, Juliana and Lincoln.
Andrew was born in Athens, Greece on May 21, 1931. He survived WWII and started work at the age of fourteen. First, he was a farm hand, then a baker’s assistant and finally a silversmith. The rest of his working life Andrew was crafting or repairing silverware. He immigrated to Montreal, Canada with his family in 1965 as a skilled tradesperson. He practiced his craft as a master silversmith at Henry Birk’s of Montreal, and Burke & Wallace in Toronto.
He had many career highlights but the one his sons like to brag about the most was when he got to polish the Stanley Cup for presentation at a final game of the playoffs (it was not 1967).
When not working he dedicated his time to his family. He was a model father, always showing care and love for his wife and children. Andrew was also a leader and contributor to his church community. As a board member, an altar assistant or as a parishioner, he was willing to help where it was needed. He always had a smile on his face and very seldomly would he express a negative opinion about someone. He was a kind and gentle man. We will all miss him, but the grandchildren and the great grandchildren will miss “Baba” the most. Eternal be his memory!
