In memory of
Andrew Mastoris
June 20, 1938 -
April 8, 2019
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we say good bye to Andrew ‘Andy’ Mastoris.
Predeceased by his parents Antonis and Sotiria and siblings George, Vicky, Vera and John. Andy is survived by his brother Steve (Linda), nieces and nephews Don (Brenda), Jenny (John), Sandy (Steve), Mark (Lorna), Melissa (Cesar), Anthony, Spiro (Mary) and Martha (Chris). Andy, we all love and miss you with all our hearts.
He is also loved and deeply missed by his great-nieces and nephews Dante, Elias, Talia, Larissa, Kira (Joel), Matthew, Anna, John K., John M., Katerina, Vangelis, Vasili, Julian and Benjamin.
Family by shared DNA is only one type of family. Andy had extended family in so many of you who touched his life and whose lives he touched in return. It is truly heartwarming to see the beautiful memories, sentiments and photos that have been shared, spoken, posted, written and broadcast. Everyone looked forward to that hug from Andy and to seeing that smile that lit up any room. He truly was ‘just a down to earth old boy’. Gate 1 will truly never be the same.
Cherry Downs, Maple Leaf Gardens (back in the day) and more recently Scotiabank Arena were his favourite places to be because some of his favourite people were there. Trying to have a quick chat with him during a game meant you most surely were interrupted time after time by people who wanted to get that ‘hug from Andy’. He often pointed out people that were 2nd and 3rd generations of families that he had known for decades. You weren’t colleagues, customers, or even friends, he considered all of you extended family.
Thank you all for brightening Andy’s world, for caring for him when he was sick, making him laugh the odd time he was down, for laughing with him when he shared a corny joke, and for all the hugs you gave him. He truly appreciated each and every one of you.
For those who wish to make a donation in Andy’s name, please feel free to do so to the charity of your choice because if it makes you happy, it would have made Andy happy.
All are welcome to join in his celebration of life.
