Andrew 'Burnie' Sidon

January 30, 1925 -  June 8, 2023

Andrew (Burnie) Sidon passed away peacefully at the age of 98 on Thursday June 8, 2023 at Lakeridge
Health Ajax. Burnie was married to the love of his life Ethel for 73 years before her passing and is
survived by his loving daughters Victoria (Ken) and Paula (Cathy), her grandchildren Brandon (Lindsay)
and Codi and his great grandchildren Mackenzie, Anderson, Rory and Benjamin.

Burnie was born in W. Kildonan Manitoba January 30, 1925 to parents James and Violet and raised in
East York Ontario. Burnie was recognized at a young age with an artistic talent.

In 1943 Burnie enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force. He became a Pilot Officer, Regiment number
J92210, Squadron 415, Group 6 this was an all Canadian crew stationed out of East moor England, he
completed 32 trips a full tour in the Halifax Mark 3 Bomber primarily as a Tail Gunner, Mid-under/Blister
Gunner or a Mid-upper-Gunner. On his return home he enrolled in the fine arts program at Queens
University.

Burnie graduated from Central Technical School and studied Fine Art at Queens University, Kingston
Ontario under Andre Bieler and Carl Schaffer, two well known Canadian artists.

He worked many years as a Graphic Designer and Art Director for a large printing company and taught
drawing and painting at Central Technical School and Danforth Technical School.

He has had one and two man shows in the Toronto area and was an associate member of the Canadian
Society of Painters in Watercolour. Burnie is a four time award winner of a national competition for
professional artists and is represented in corporate and private collections in Canada and the United
States.

Burnie was a passionate watercolour artist and graphic designer; we are all fortunate to be surrounded
by his art everyday. Burnie loved to paint the Canadian landscape and never travelled without a sketch
book.

Thanks to all his friends & caregivers for taking the time to call, visit & support our Dad it was very much
appreciated.

I enjoyed many New Year’s Day dinners with Burnie and Ethel and family.
I have several paintings of Burnie’s in my house and I enjoy them every day.
He will be missed.
