In memory of

Amelia Colleen Ruthven-Nelson

April 3, 1990 -  July 9, 2022

After a valiant fight, our amazing Amelia left us far too soon. Beloved spouse of Nicholas McIvor, cherished daughter of Eleanor (Ellie) Ruthven, dear niece of Jo-Anne Barber. Mourned by her father, Finian Nelson and the extended Ruthven, Barber and Nelson families. Much loved by a wide circle of friends and colleagues. Amelia’s career was in children’s animation as a production, development and marketing co-ordinator. Her talents, interests and passions were diverse and eclectic: the arts (music, art, drama and film), international travel, animals (from her pet Betta fish to African wildlife), children’s literature and social justice - particularly feminist, LGBTQ+ youth and BIPOC causes. Amelia shared her gift as a skillful and insightful writer on various online platforms and blogs; she shared herself unconditionally with everyone she met. Special thanks to the medical teams at Princess Margaret, Mount Sinai and Hennick Bridgepoint Hospitals for their expert and compassionate care. Donations to the World Wildlife Fund Canada (wwf.ca) or Wanasah (wanasah.ca), a non-profit organization devoted to the mental health of Black youth and their families would be appreciated.

It is often hard to find the right words at a time like this. May you find peace, comfort, and all the love you need in the days to come.

Amelia loved making art for the right reasons, and she brought a quirky, positive energy to everything she involved herself in. I did not know her well, but was always fond of her, and pleased when our paths crossed. I found her to be endlessly supportive, and passionate about leaving the world a less grim place than she found it. In that, she was a great success. My condolences to all who loved her.

Amelia,
Thank you for all the laughs, the fun lunchtime conversations, and the joy you brought to the world. I'm so happy I got to know you and call you a friend. I will miss you and our serious discussions about the intricacies of reality TV.
Sending peace, love and comfort to all those closest to Amelia.

I did not know Amelia long, but she taught me to enjoy Wine and Diet Coke, and now I will never forget her smile or her laugh. Wherever she is, she's bringing happiness with her, and we here should continue to be happy in her memory as best as we can.
