In memory of

Amal Hassib Gebara

January 6, 1940 -  September 19, 2018

Amal Hassib Gebara, 78, left this world on Wednesday, September 19th, 2018 at Sunnybrook Health Centre.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 46 years, Margaret (Jiryes) Gebara, his dear daughters Randa and Serene, and his dear sons Alfred and Karim. Amal will be lovingly remembered by his beloved sisters Claire and Carmen along with many dear family and friends.

Born and raised in the beautiful mountain town of Marjeyoun, Lebanon, he was the son of Hassib and Eugenie, Brother of Robert, Nabil, Claire and Carmen.

After high school, Amal moved to Beirut to study at the American University of Beirut, completing his degree in Civil Engineering. Over the course of his long career he lead many infrastructure projects around the world, ranging from Canada, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Europe, West Africa, India, East Asia and South America.

In 1972, he married a long time family friend, Margaret. His love and devotion towards her was unconditional right until his last moments.

In 1990, Amal moved his family to Canada, to keep them safe from the war in Lebanon and give them a better future. Canada was a place he loved and appreciated, but his heart was always in Lebanon.

He loved being an engineer, he was gifted in math and sciences, enjoyed reading and discussing history and politics. He was an avid bridge player, with his close circle of friends. He was very intelligent with a deep general knowledge spanning many subjects. But before anything else, his family, cousins and extended family came first in life. He had a special place in his heart for all his family, wanting everyone to get along and be there for each other. “Family is the most important thing” he would often say, and would go out of his way to help any family member in need.

Amal was characterized by honesty and high moral standards. He lived his life by being truthful, respecting others and would never stray away from his deep moral values. He was a true gentleman in every sense of the word and he will be dearly missed by all who`s lives he touched.
