Alwyn was born on September 14, 1969, in Georgetown, Guyana. He was a proud alumnus of St. Stanislaus College, where his passion for learning first took root. After completing his secondary education, Alwyn pursued higher studies at the University of Guyana, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Managerial Economics.
Alwyn began his professional journey in Guyana’s Oil and Gas Sector, working with esteemed companies such as the Shell Company, Geddes Grant Guyana Ltd, and GuyOil. His dedication and work ethic were evident throughout his career.
In 2005, Alwyn immigrated to Ontario, Canada, with his family, embracing a new chapter filled with opportunity and growth. He began his Canadian career at Scotiabank, later transitioning to Alphabroder/Ash City, where he served as a Customer Service Manager. Always striving for excellence, Alwyn furthered his education by obtaining a Graduate Certificate in Project Management from Durham College.
It was during this time that Alwyn rediscovered his love for teaching. He joined Fleming College as a Professor, where he inspired and mentored countless students, leaving a lasting legacy in the classroom and beyond.
Alwyn had many passions; he was a gardener whose hands brought life to the earth, a collector of foreign and rare stamps, a master chef who infused every dish with warmth and flavor, and a singer whose melodies filled our home with joy. His heart beat for the thrill of sport, whether celebrating the elegance of the Olympics or cheering for his favourite teams: Toronto Football Club, Guyana Amazon Warriors. His love for knowledge and literature was revered by all, and his sense of humour and thundering laugh will be forever remembered.
A devoted husband, father, and best friend, Alwyn Joseph Appiah will be eternally cherished and missed greatly by his dedicated partner, Basmattie, and his loving children Ariel Charlaine Aloysia, Amy Rachel Angela, Stephen Joseph, and Lexi: the treasured family dog.
