In memory of

Allan Mervyn Hodgson

July 2, 1930 -  September 30, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Allan Hodgson, who left us peacefully on September 30, 2025.

Allan will be dearly missed by his loving sons, Chris Hodgson (Sharon Davies) and Ted Hodgson. He was also a beloved grandad to Katherine Hodgson.

Allan is survived by his brothers Dennis (late Marg) and Doug (Cheryl). He was predeceased by his cherished wife Bettie (nee Wood), baby son Kenneth, his parents Clarice and Ernie, brother Jack (late Helen).

Allan was born in 1930 in Pointe Au Baril, Ontario and the family moved to Toronto in the early 1940s. After high school, Allan started work with Canadian National Telegraphs for a few years and then joined the Bell Telephone Company of Canada (future Bell Canada) as a teletype installer & repairman. Allan progressed through various supervisor & management roles in Toronto, Ottawa & Belleville and ended his career with Bell Canada International in Maclean, Virginia USA in 1984.

In 1950, Allan met the eternal love of his life, Bettie Wood. A recent immigrant from Leeds, England, their love for each other flourished. They married in 1952 and started our family in 1954. Dad was a life long constant companion to Mum including constant support through her very difficult last years suffering with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Bettie and Al maintained strong relationships with our Canadian and English families throughout all the years. Those close ties continue today and included a very recent visit with Allan by 2 English nieces & nephew-in-law.

Allan will be remembered as being very personable, funny and a good story teller. He loved cottaging (including building one), travel, ocean cruising and watching sports. He was a great lover of the Toronto Blue Jays, NHL hockey, PGA golf and NFL football. He remained mentally robust and engaged, even into his 96th year.

We take comfort in knowing Allan is reunited with his beloved Bettie.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all the Amica-Pickering team who supported Allan these past 18 months and the St. Michael’s Hospital staff, who provided Dad with kindness, dignity and comfort in his final days.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Allan's life will be held on Thursday November 13, 2025 at 12 noon at the Pine Hills Cemetery and Funeral Center, followed by a light luncheon.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to St. Michael’s Hospital Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.

Very fond memories of my Uncle Allan when l was a child with my Auntie Bettie too. I think mostly we saw them at my Auntie Bettie’s sisters house(Edna and Arthur). Spent Christmas’s with them. We have old videos that Uncle Al took of us all singing together. It’s a shame they were so far away to see them more often. Thank you God that you’ve taken my Uncle into heaven and he’s in peace. Hopefully with my Dad.. Lyndon who died this year. God bless🙏

Losing Al is so sad. We had the pleasure of socializing with Al when he visited Sharon and Chris in Calgary. He was a curious, funny man with so many talents and gifts…purportedly a great dancer. His storytelling was superb. He is now off on his next adventure learning about everything. He will have some grand and funny tales to tell us next time we meet 😍😍

This griefs me to bits and brought me to tears.
Al was the funniest wittiest neighbor on the planet
He was a joy to say good morning to good night and every afternoon at 4:30 he sits in the back for his evening drink. As we barbecue we would share dinner sometimes, and also Christmas supper. I'm extremely sad. Buddy n I visited Amica yesterday and they said Al was out with his son for the weekend. Obviously they got it mixed up with another Al. You were my true friend Al We will miss you forever may God give you a resting place 🙏 with Betty. 🙏
