In memory of

Alistair Shannon Smith

April 12, 1944 -  August 18, 2019

Surrounded with love and support from family and friends, Alistair passed peacefully in his sleep after a long but brave battle with illnesses. The scrappy wee man from Glasgow showed incredible strength and resilience while continuing to charm and put a smile on the faces of those who were lucky enough to be around him. Loved deeply by his wife of 53 years, Kathleen "Sherry" (nee Sherlock). Adored by his children Lesley-Ann (Mark) and Scott (Wendy). Cherished Grandfather to Kristen, Quinten and Ainsley. Alistair is predeceased by his parents Thomas and Alice Craig (nee Alston) and his siblings Sheila, Alice and Thomas. Born and raised in Scotland Ally moved to Greenbelt Village in Don Mills in 1974 with his wife and two children. The people in "The Village" quickly became his new family and lifelong friends, being surrounded by their love and support until the day he left us. Ally held multiple occupations, but will be remembered most as a butcher who made wicked square sausage. Alistair will be remembered fondly by his many friends in Canada and Scotland, and missed dearly by his family including those in Scotland, Australia, England, and America who were always in his heart. A private family service will be held prior to cremation, and will be followed by a celebration of his life on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 2:00pm. In true Ally fashion, there will be food and drinks at the Rec Hall of his new wee village at 1890 Valley Farm Rd in Pickering.

So sorry to hear the sad news about my uncle Ally.
Uncle Ally and auntie Kathleen and the kids left for Canada when I was only 11 but as I was growing up he was always a great help and mentor to me with his usual words of wisdom on the phone (usually after a wee swally)
Both he and aunt Kathleen along with Scott came over to Scotland to attend my wedding and I was so pleased and grateful for there attendance.
I visited him in Canada a few times and these memories are very precious to me the times we spent together really we’re very special going over for one of Alllys steak dinners is the stuff of legend.
Over the last wee while he did not have the best of health but he fought his illness with the heart of a Scottish LIon I remember speaking with Lesley Ann recently and telling her he has some fight in him and he would give Mike Tyson a run for his money.
Uncle Ally really was one of this worlds true gentleman and I will miss him so so much.
Till we meet again
God bless XX

Dear Ally, We knew you weren't well and you fought so hard to stay with Kathleen, Lesley Ann, Scott and their families. It was still a shock to hear the very sad news of your passing, after just seeing you a fortnight ago and having a laugh with you Kathleen and my sister Janie.
Jim, Patrick, Kirsty and I thought the world of you , you truely had a heart of Gold , so kind and always had a laugh with us. You may have been a wee man but you were huge in our eyes.
You'll be sadly missed by all, our thoughts and prayers are with Kathleen, Lesley Ann, Scott and their families.
Rest in Peace Ally
Love
Catherine, Patrick and Kirsty xxxx
