In memory of

Alison Frances Carter

May 6, 1925 -  December 18, 2023

Alison Frances Carter (nee Geddes), May 6, 1925 – Dec 18, 2023
Our beloved mother passed away peacefully on December 18th in her sleep at the age of 98. She was the loyal and loving wife of the late Donald Maitland Carter.
Her beautiful smile and hearty laugh will be missed by her two sons Stephen (Catherine), David (Ellen) and by her daughter Roslyn (Gerry). She was a very lucky grandma to Jeffrey (Sara), Christopher (Thuy), Michael, Trevor, Nicholas (Sandra), Cameron (Melissa), Duncan (Christina) and Michelle (Mitchel). Alison was also blessed to have ten great-grandchildren. She is lovingly remembered by her sister-in-law Joan Hill and by her nieces and nephew. She was pre-deceased by daughter-in-law Wendy and brother-in-law Wm. Hill.
Alison was raised in Hamilton, Ontario and spent many wonderful family vacations in Port Elgin. At age 18, Alison joined the Women’s Royal Canadian Naval Service (WRENS) and served her country in 1944-45 as a skilled wireless telegraphist, crucially transcribing enemy transmissions from her posting at HMCS Naden, near Victoria B.C. After the war, she went on to Queens University to earn her B.A. degree.
As well as raising her family, mostly in Toronto, Alison also loved to sing, play tennis, bridge and to swim. What a well-rounded, long and purposeful life she enjoyed. We are so proud of her.
The family thanks the dedicated staff at the Sunnybrook Veteran’s Centre for their excellent care, and her visiting companion Dahlia who provided extra social and physical interaction. It’s wonderful to see our veterans get the long-term care support they deserve in a health facility like Sunnybrook.
A small memorial service will be held at a later date. If desired, donations can be made to the Sunnybrook Foundation or the Salvation Army.

Alison was a loving, generous and family centred Aunt. As young children at Christmas, she thrilled us with a specially chosen toy, big hugs and smiles. Special event gatherings at the Carter home featured her delicious food and carry many memories of her warmth and humility. Aunt Alison will be remembered and missed with love. Wishes of sympathy and comfort to the Carter family. Love, Barbara
