In memory of

Alfred Ki-Wai Leung

June 10, 1947 -  May 23, 2025

Dr. Alfred Ki-Wai Leung
June 10, 1947 – May 23, 2025

Dr. Alfred Ki-Wai Leung, 77, of Richmond Hill, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on May 23, 2025, in his medical office after a full day of work from an undiagnosed heart condition.

Born in Hong Kong in 1947, Alfred was the eldest of four siblings. As a young adult, he immigrated to St. John’s, Newfoundland in 1968, where he paved the way for his siblings and parents to follow. He studied medicine at Memorial University of Newfoundland Faculty and in 1977, he became both a Canadian Citizen and went on to become a family physician in Ontario.

For nearly 50 years, Dr. Leung dedicated himself wholeheartedly to his patients and medical practice. In his spare time, he loved spending quality moments with his family, watching the news and Chinese TV shows. Alfred loved checking restaurant menus in detail ahead of time to ensure that each of the family members would have their favourite food to enjoy.

He was a kind and loving person to everyone he met. Alfred’s favourite saying was, “be kind and helpful”, and this is exactly how he chose to live his life.

One of Alfred’s biggest accomplishments was being a father. His son, Alvin, called his dad a superhero, and even as an adult, still sees him that way. Alfred was known as the ‘community hero’ to the Bamburgh Clinic for decades. He also contributed his time to his private practice in Newmarket, Southlake Regional Health Centre and Trinity Medical Clinic.

Alfred always aimed to make people feel welcome, whether taking them out for dim sum or dinner, offering them a can of soda, sage advice, or just being supportive to their loved ones, Alfred would often go above and beyond.

Alfred is survived by his life partner and spouse, Donna, his son, Alvin, his daughter-in-law, Lavinia, his brothers, Arthur and Albert and his sister, Betty.

The family will be present to welcome loved ones for visitation at the Elgin Mills Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, June 13, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. located at 1591 Elgin Mills Rd E, in Richmond Hill, Ontario, L4S 1M9.

The family will hold a private funeral service on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at the same location:

9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. – Visitation (for those unable to attend on June 13th)

10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. – Funeral service

11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. – Committal service, reception to follow at Casa Victoria located at 8601 Warden Ave. Unit 4-6, Unionville, ON L3R 0B5

You may send flowers to the funeral home or memorial donations to Southlake Health Foundation at https://southlake.ca/foundation/about/donate/ in memoriam of Dr. Alfred Leung’s lifelong devotion to health care.
