In memory of

Alexandra Maxwell

December 22, 1993 -  July 18, 2023

Surrounded by the love of her family, Alexandra “Alex” Claire Maxwell passed peacefully at home on July 18th, 2023, at the age of 29. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Jason, her partner of 12 years, her parents Kristin and Brad, her two younger sisters Siena and Kylie, and her beloved dog Tilly.

Alex attended McGill University for her undergrad in Cellular Anatomy and then went on to the University of Toronto to study nursing. She was a dedicated pediatric nurse at the Hospital for Sick Children, where she worked tirelessly with her 7B family and cared for those with Covid-19 throughout the pandemic. She was truly fulfilled by her work and caring for her patients. She cherished the messages from those she cared for, as they can be found framed in her room to this day.

Alex is known for being compassionate and putting others’ needs before her own, as well as for a sense of humour that could make people smile even in the lowest moments. She was a kind soul and adored spending time with her friends and family including all the extended family trips she always attended. She had a zest for living and never lost her smile. One of her most cherished memories is June 18th, 2022, the day she married her best friend; the man who supported, loved, and cared for her during the most difficult time of her life. She and Jason were married under her maple tree, with her closest friends and family. Her family will spend many days under this tree, thinking of her.

At the age of 28, in January of 2022, Alex was initially diagnosed with breast cancer. She immediately began chemotherapy treatment and continued to undergo treatment even after she learned in March of 2023 that the breast cancer had metastasized. While she was never cancer free, Alex remained a bright light always thinking of those around her.

Her care team describes her as a strong advocate for herself and others. All those that met her in the hospital fell in love with her kind and respectful manner. She made sure to learn the names of everyone she met, from the front desk to the nurses. Throughout her journey a bond was formed between Alex and her team, and tears were shed by the many doctors, and nurses who cared for her. Her family wants to extend their thanks to everyone at SHN. Alex especially appreciated the care of Dr. Maayan Seitelbach, Dr. Ulana Kawun, Yoga Manoharan, and Michelle Jones, the incredible breast navigator at SHN.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Alex’s name to the Scarborough Health Network Cancer Care (https://shnfoundation.ca/inmemory) and Gilda’s Club Toronto (https://www.gildasclubtoronto.org/tribute-in-memory). eCards can be sent to jtangyuk6@gmail.com.

At Alex’s request, no services will be held. She will be remembered privately, by friends and family. We appreciate the messages and stories shared on her social media. If you want to hear more about Alex’s story you can visit this link: https://www.mightforrightproductions.com/podcast-for-alex
