In memory of

Albert Baker

February 14, 1958 -  November 13, 2023

The family of Albert Baker is saddened to announce his passing on November 13, 2023.

Albert leaves behind his wife Carmela, his children Brad (Cassandra), Brittany, Brenda and Brooke, his grandchildren Liberty, D’Arcy and Farell and his faithful canine companion Panda. He also impacted many lives through his work with Deloitte over the course of over 40 years with the firm in Montreal, Vancouver and Toronto, and will be missed by his many friends and colleagues.

Beyond International Tax Policy and BEPS, Albert leaves behind a rich legacy of accomplishments including being a premier amateur magician, part-time genealogist, master of Google, self-taught historian of the English language, ancestry.com super user, a Judo blue belt, amateur squash pro and single-handedly bringing back the fanny pack and Stan Smith shoes.

He received many accolades, including being named a top global tax advisor on many occasions, several TV and media appearances on tax matters, a childhood appearance on the Magic Tom Show, and being crowned the Quebec Men’s D squash champion circa 1997 :)

Albert was also an avid collector of many rare treasures including stolen Piment Rouge napkins, Wildwood NJ artifacts, costumes for all occasions, Frontier Town memorabilia, classic cars, coins, typewriters and Starbucks mugs from around the world.

Throughout his 65 years, Albert led with humour, generosity and intellect. He was a pillar of love, strength and support for his family and will be sorely missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to CAMH.

My deepest sympathies to Albert’s family. I was stunned and very saddened to hear of his passing. I had the privilege of working with and getting to know Albert many years ago at Deloitte. He was very humble and generous with his time and I greatly appreciated it. He was also very kind to me after I left Deloitte. He was a pillar in the tax community. More importantly, he was a true gentleman. I will never forget how nice he was to me when my father passed away. Over the years, whenever we spoke, he spoke so proudly about his family. May his memory bring comfort to his family.

I wish to extend my deepest condolences to Carmela and Albert's entire family on
Albert's passing. Albert was an accomplished professional respected and admired by his colleagues at Deloitte and throughout the tax profession in Canada. A true class act. Gone much too soon. He will be missed by all.

Our heartfelt condolences to the Baker family on the loss of a husband, father and grandfather. Although we did not know Albert well, his closest family members always speak with such love of him and their many family adventures and activities. I had the pleasure of working with & being friends with Albert since 1994. I’m going to miss our many diverse and entertaining conversations. For the longest time while he was in Montréal we played squash together at the MAA. He was always smiling, always happy and always had something interesting to share, often about his family. I had no idea he was an amateur magician, oddly enough that’s a passion we both shared, and we never knew! My most sincere condolences to the whole family. You are all in my prayers and thoughts.
Sincerely
Glenn
