Alan McCrorie Duff was born January 12, 1925 in Ayr, Scotland. After graduating from the centuries old Ayr Academy, as many of his generation did, Alan joined the RAF at age 17.
After training in western Canada, he spent World War II in service in India. Upon leaving the RAF, he worked a few years with Scottish Airways, after which he decided to emigrate to Canada. It was on the boat journey crossing the Atlantic that he met his future wife’s father.
Settling in Montreal, he joined BOAC and worked his way up to Airport Manager Dorval. In 1972, he transferred to the position of Airport Manager Toronto. He eventually took the position of Manager Western Canada followed by his last post as Cargo Manager Canada after which he retired.
His various positions through his life saw him travel the world to places such as Germany, Denmark, India, Jorda, Iran, Sri Lanka (Ceylon), as well as leisure travel to Switzerland, Greece, Mauritius, Ireland and many other countries.
Alan passed away on April 12, 2024 at the age of 99. He loved fully and was loved fully by his wife Janet, who predeceased him, his sons Bruce (Paloma) and Ian, and his grandchildren Robert, Valerie, Hooper, Patrick, Jordan, Sum and Justin.
