It's with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Abbas Hadian.
Dr. Abbas Hadian was born in Esfehan, Iran, June 27, 1935, and passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, May 26, 2024 at North York General Hospital.
Abbas practiced in Iran as an OBGYN for 2 decades before immigrating to Canada.
He had established an Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital in the province of Mazandaran, Iran, together with his wife Mary Hadian, to provide much needed care in this underserved region and starting a compassionate lifelong journey, helping those in need until he migrated to Canada. He continued to serve thousands of patients in Toronto where he practiced, until his declining health forced him into retirement at 83 years old.
When Dr. Hadian and family immigrated to Canada, he obtained his license to practice as a family physician and served the community for 40 years in private practice.
He was a member of the family medicine team at NYGH for 35 years where he continued to provide obstetrics care. He was the only Persian family physician in Toronto (circa 1980) and became a beacon of hope for the Iranian and all Persian speaking communities in the GTA until his retirement in 2018.
He spent the latter half of his career contributing greatly to the well-being of countless newcomers to Canada. His philanthropy was invaluable and it emanated with no thought of recognition or reward.
Dr. Hadian was revered and loved by all his patients for the tremendous compassion and care he provided to them. He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife Mary Hadian, and sons Peter (wife Rita), Alex, Paul (wife Jhenae, grandson Quentin) and Payman (departed).
